Detroit Tigers at Pittsburgh Pirates 8/7/20 - MLB Picks & Predictions

An interleague series will get underway on Friday night, when the Detroit Tigers travel to PNC Park to face the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Tigers were predicted to finish last in the AL Central Division and have gotten off to a surprising 5-5 start. On Sunday, Detroit was swept in a doubleheader by 4-3 and 4-0 final scores.

Talented left-hander Matthew Boyd (0-1 7.20 ERA) will head to the hill for the Tigers in this contest. Through ten innings of work, Boyd has been tagged for 15 hits and eight earned runs.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have started with a major league worst 3-10 record and have managed to score just 45 runs total. On Thursday, pinch hitter Kevin Newman delivered a two-run walkoff single to lift Pittsburgh to a much needed 6-5 home victory versus Minnesota. OF Bryan Reynolds added a pair of hits and scored twice for the Pirates on the afternoon.

Pittsburgh manager Derek Shelton will turn to right-hander Chad Kuhl (0-0 1.80 ERA) in the series opener. Through 318 career innings, Kuhl has given up 38 home runs and fanned 281 batters.

Detroit OF Cameron Maybin has landed on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain. Through 10 games, Detroit ranks 20th in OPS and 22nd in runs scored. Pittsburgh counters with an offense that ranks 29th in OPS and 21st in runs scored. Take the Tigers to win the series opener. Final Score Prediction, Detroit Tigers win 5-3.
