The Chicago Cubs are set to travel to Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas for a cross-league clash against the Texas Rangers. The Chicago Cubs ended the 2018 season with a 95-68 record, and they eventually fell in the NL Wild Card round to the Colorado Rockies. The Chicago Cubs return their 2018 HR and RBI leader in Javier Baez as he contributed 34 HRs and 111 RBIs. The Chicago Cubs added Daniel Descalso which will give the infield depth after contributing 22 doubles and 57 RBIs a year ago with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Chicago Cubs will start Jon Lester who went 18-6 with a 3.32 ERA which resulted in an all-star appearance during the 2018 regular season. Jon Lester has had success on the road over the last 3 seasons as he has gone 26-10 with a 3.46 ERA.
The Texas Rangers ended the 2018 season with a 67-95 record which resulted in a 5th place finish in the AL West. The Texas Rangers return their 2018 HR and RBI leader in Joey Gallo as he contributed 40 HRs and 92 RBIs. The Texas Rangers added Asdrubal Cabrera after having a solid season with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies in 2018 as he contributed a total of 23 HRs and 75 RBIs.

The Texas Rangers will start Mike Minor who went 12-8 with a 4.18 ERA during the 2018 regular season. Mike Minor has had success at home over the last 3 seasons as he has gone 9-6 with a respectable 3.18 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs have had success against the Texas Rangers in the past few meetings as they have gone 4-1. Chicago returns their powerful lineup which includes Baez, Rizzo, and Bryant while the Texas Rangers didn’t make many upgrades to their weak batting order. Mike Minor had a decent year last season with the Rangers, but it is hard for me not to back Jon Lester and the proven Chicago Cubs in the season opener. Chicago wins, 6-3.
