In Wednesday afternoon MLB action, the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants will conclude their series from AT&T Park. Last night, Chicago SP Jose Quintana allowed just three hits over six innings of a 2-0 victory. Addison Russell and Ian Happ each scored a run for the Cubs, who moved within 1.5 games of Milwaukee for the NL Central Division lead.

Twenty-nine year old southpaw Mike Montgomery (3-3 3.68 ERA) will take the mound for the Cubs in this matchup. Through 71 innings, Montgomery has fanned just 47 batters and sports a solid 1.24 WHIP. The San Francisco Giants have lost seven of their last ten games overall and are trying to keep pace in the NL West Division race. On Tuesday, the Giants lacked power in a lineup that produced just three singles. SP Derek Holland struck out eight batters over six plus frames for San Francisco, who trails first place Arizona by four full games.

Twenty-six year old righty Dereck Rodriguez (3-1 3.09 ERA) will get the nod for the Giants on Wednesday. San Francisco has won each of Rodriguez’s last five starts and he has allowed just eight runs total over that stretch.

Chicago 3B Kris Bryant (shoulder) was scheduled to be reevaluated after Tuesday’s rehab game. Through 89 games, Chicago ranks 2nd in batting average and 4th in runs scored. For the season, San Francisco ranks 8th in batting average and 21st in runs scored. Look for a third straight under to hit in this series. Final Score Prediction, Chicago Cubs win low scoring game 3-2.
