Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres 8/4/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

Petco Park will play host to a Thursday afternoon MLB clash between the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres. The Rockies (46-61) are in the midst of a five-game losing streak and are stuck in the NL West Division basement. Last night, Colorado SP Chad Kuhl (6-7) was tagged for all nine runs in five innings during a 9-1 road loss against San Diego.

Twenty-nine year old southpaw Kyle Freeland (6-7 4.63 ERA) will take the ball for the Rockies in this matchup. Colorado has won Freeland’s last three starts and he has allowed eight runs over his last 17 innings.

The San Diego Padres (61-46) landed All-Star OF Juan Soto on Tuesday's trade deadline and that has created a jolt within the organization. On Wednesday, newly acquired OF Brandon Drury hit a grand slam in his first at-bat in a San Diego uniform. All-Star 3B Manny Machado and 2B Jake Cronenworth each went deep for the Padres, who improved to 61-46 on the season.

The Padres will counter with All-Star righty Joe Musgrove (8-4 2.65 ERA) in the series finale. San Diego has lost Musgrove’s last three starts and he has given up 11 runs over his last 16 plus frames.

San Diego SS Fernando Tatis Jr. (wrist) faced live pitching on Wednesday and appears to be ready for a rehab assignment. Through 107 games, Colorado ranks 10th in OPS and 10th in runs scored. For the season, San Diego ranks 19th in OPS and 13th in runs scored. Take the Rockies to win at home. Final Score Prediction, Colorado Rockies win 5-2.
