Colorado Rockies at Pittsburgh Pirates 5/23/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Monday MLB schedule will get started with a matchup between the Colorado Rockies and the Pittsburgh Pirates from PNC Park. The Rockies (19-21) have dropped seven of their previous ten games and are sitting in last place in the NL West Division standings. On Sunday, Colorado went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base during a 2-0 home loss versus New York.

Twenty-nine year old righty Chad Kuhl (3-2 3.86 ERA) will make his eighth start of the season. The Rockies have dropped Kuhl’s last three starts and he has been tagged for 12 runs (11 ER) over his last 13 plus frames.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in the midst of a three-game losing skid and are tied with Chicago for third place in the NL Central Division. On Sunday, Pittsburgh SP Bryse Wilson was tagged for seven runs and recorded just five outs during an ugly 18-4 home loss versus St. Louis. Jack Suwinski and Yoshi Tsutsugo each homered in a losing effort for the Pirates (16-24).

The Pirates will give the nod to struggling right-hander J.T. Brubaker (0-4 5.50 ERA) in the series opener. Pittsburgh has lost Brubaker’s last three starts and they have provided just two runs total over that stretch.

Pittsburgh SS Kevin Newman (groin) had a slight setback on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis. Through 40 games, Colorado ranks 3rd in OPS and 7th in runs scored. For the season, Pittsburgh ranks 27th in OPS and 29th in runs scored. Take the over. Final Score Prediction, Pittsburgh Pirates win 6-5.
