Cleveland Indians at Detroit Tigers 9/20/20 - MLB Picks & Predictions

Comerica Park will play host to a Sunday afternoon MLB battle between the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers. Last night, Cleveland batters struck out 12 times and failed to draw a walk during a 5-2 road loss against Detroit. RP Phil Maton (2-3) surrendered four runs and recorded just one out in a losing effort for the Indians, who dropped to 28-24 overall.

Thirty-three year old righty Carlos Carrasco (2-4 3.27 ERA) will take the mound for the Indians in this matchup. Through 55 innings, Carrasco has struck out 63 batters and has posted a 1.31 WHIP.

The Detroit Tigers are seven games below .500 overall and manager Ron Gardenhire announced that he is retiring immediately due to health concerns. On Saturday, Detroit DH Harold Castro doubled and drove in a run. SP Spencer Turnbull gave up two runs in six innings and did not factor in the decision for the Tigers (22-29).  

The Tigers will counter with talented left-hander Matthew Boyd (2-6 6.75 ERA) on Sunday. In his last start, Boyd allowed two hits over five plus shutout frames during a 6-0 home victory versus Kansas City.

Detroit 2B Jonathan Schoop is currently on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right wrist. Through 52 games, Cleveland ranks 27th in OPS and 26th in runs scored.
