Cleveland Guardians at Kansas City Royals 9/7/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Kansas City Royals host the Cleveland Guardians for the final game of a three-game series Sept. 7. Cleveland leads the season series 7-4 after winning 6-5 on Monday.

Kansas City’s starter is Zack Greinke, who is 4-8 with a 4.14 earned run average over 108.2 innings pitched. He has faced Cleveland twice this season. Greinke did not factor in the decision in his April 7 start against the Guardians, but the Royals won 3-1 as he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed just one run, five hits and a walk. He got the win against Cleveland on July 10 with six shutout innings and only three hits and one walk. This will be Greinke’s first start since going on the injured list Aug. 21.

Cleveland will start with rookie Cody Morris on the mound. Morris took the loss in his debut Sept. 2 vs. Seattle, leaving after facing 13 batters over two innings and giving up four hits and two runs. He threw 54 pitches against the Mariners and is expected to throw around 60 pitches in this game.

Royals rookie shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. leads the team in hits, runs, home runs, runs batted in and stolen baes despite hitting just .248. He has really struggled to get on base in the second half with a dismal .269 on-base percentage.

Third baseman Jose Ramirez has had a fantastic season for the Guardians, leading the team in runs scored (74), home runs (26) and runs batted in (106). Ramirez is also third on the club with 14 stolen bases.

Greinke was awful in May before hitting the injured list at the end the month, but Greinke had been much better in his 11 starts since returning with an ERA of 3.36 before needing another short IL stint. Cleveland has hit a rough patch and has won just three of its last 11 games after the extra-inning victory Monday. With a starter who’ll only go two or three innings and a bunch of tired arms in Guardians’ bullpen, we like the Royals to win this one.  Final Score Prediction: Kansas City Royals win 5-3.
