Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates 8/21/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

In Sunday afternoon MLB action, the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates will wrap up their weekend series from PNC Park. The Reds (47-71) have dropped 35 of their 56 road games and have been unable to recover from their dismal 3-22 start to the season. Last night, Cincinnati DH Donovan Solano collected three hits and scored twice during a convincing 10-1 road victory.

Thirty-four year old southpaw Mike Minor (1-10 6.31 ERA) is having a year to forget for the Reds. Last time out, Minor gave up ten hits and four runs during a 4-3 home loss versus Philadelphia.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are six games below .500 at home and have fallen back into last place in the NL Central Division. On Saturday, Pittsburgh SP Tyler Beede (1-3) surrendered five runs (4 ER) in four innings and took the loss. RP Eric Stout was roughed up for five runs and recorded just one out in the ninth inning for the Pirates, who fell to 47-73 on the year.

The Pirates will turn to twenty-eight year old righty Zach Thompson (3-9 5.51 ERA) on Sunday. In his last four starts, Thompson has been tagged for 17 runs across 18 plus frames.

Cincinnati SP Hunter Greene (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday. Through 118 games, Cincinnati ranks 25th in OPS and 22nd in runs scored. For the season, Pittsburgh ranks 28th in OPS and 28th in runs scored. Take the under. Final Score Prediction, Pittsburgh Pirates win 4-2.
