Chicago White Sox at San Diego Padres 3/11/23 - MLB Spring Training Picks & Predictions

The San Diego Padres host the Chicago White Sox for a Spring Training game at 3:10 p.m. EST on Tuesday at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona. The scheduled starters are former Padre Mike Clevinger for the White Sox and Blake Snell for the Padres.

Clevinger pitched in 23 games for San Diego last season and started 22. He finished the season 7-7 with a 4.33 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 114.1 inning pitched. This will be the Spring Training debut in a White Sox uniform for Clevinger. He had been held out of games pending the resolution of MLB’s investigation into accusations of domestic violence and child abuse.

Snell is entering his third season with the Padres. He was 8-10 in 24 starts last season with a 3.38 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 128 innings. Snell struck out 171 and walked 51. Snell gave up two hits and a run over three innings against Oakland on Sunday. He struck out four batters and walked one.

San Diego made the playoffs with an 89-73 record last season and finished second in the National League West, 22 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres advanced to the NL Championship Series before losing 4-1 to Philadelphia. The White Sox came in second in the American League West, 11 games behind the Cleveland Guardians at 81-81. Chicago missed the playoffs by five games.

San Diego is 7-8 so far this spring and eighth in the Cactus League Standings. The Padres have scored 85 runs and given up 68. The White Sox are fifth in the standings at 7-5. Chicago has scored 57 runs and surrendered 63. Snell starting gives the Padres the edge in this one, especially at their home park. Final Score Prediction: San Diego Padres win 7-3.
