In Monday night MLB on ESPN action, the Chicago Cubs will invade Citi Field to take on the New York Mets. The Cubs (38-27) are riding a five-game winning streak and have moved into a tie with Milwaukee for the NL Central Division lead. Last night, Chicago SP Zach Davies (4-3) and two relievers combined on a 2-hit performance during a 2-0 home victory versus St. Louis. 

Thirty-five year old righty Jake Arrieta (5-6 4.97 ERA) will take the mound for the Cubs in this matchup. Last time out, Arrieta allowed one run in five innings during a 3-1 road victory against San Diego.

The New York Mets have won 17 of their first 23 home games and lead the NL East Division by three full games over Philadelphia. On Sunday, New York RP Jeurys Familia gave up four runs and recorded just five outs during a 7-3 home loss versus San Diego. 2B Jose Peraza hit a two-run blast in a losing effort for the Mets, who fell to 32-25 on the year.

New York manager Luis Rojas will turn to twenty-five year old southpaw David Peterson (1-5 6.32 ERA) on Monday. The Mets have lost four of Peterson’s last five starts and he has surrendered 17 runs over his last 21 innings of work.

New York 2B Jeff McNeil (hamstring) has been sidelined since mid-May and is expected to rejoin the team by the weekend. Through 65 games, Chicago ranks 10th in OPS and 10th in runs scored.
