In Sunday afternoon MLB action, the Chicago Cubs will battle the Miami Marlins from loanDepot Park. The Cubs (52-67) are in the midst of a ten-game losing streak and have fallen out of contention in the NL Central Division. Last night, Chicago committed four errors and struck out eight times during a 5-4 road loss against Miami.
Twenty-nine year old righty Alec Mills (5-4 4.27 ERA) will make his 12th start of the season for the Cubs. Through 71 plus innings, Mills has struck out 53 batters and owns a subpar 1.41 WHIP.
The Miami Marlins are two games above .500 at home and trying to climb out of the NL East Division cellar. On Saturday, OF Magneuris Sierra delivered an eighth inning RBI single to lift Miami to victory. 3B Brian Anderson homered and drove in four runs for the Marlins, who improved to 50-67 on the season.
Miami manager Don Mattingly has yet to name a starting pitcher for the series finale. The Marlins currently rank 11th in the majors with a 3.81 team ERA and a 1.26 WHIP.
