In Saturday night MLB action, the Chicago Cubs and the Miami Marlins will square off from loanDepot Park. The Cubs (52-66) are in the midst of a nine-game losing streak and have fallen out of contention in the NL Central Division race. Last night, Chicago SP Adbert Alzolay (4-13) was tagged for six runs and lasted just one plus innings during a 14-10 road loss against Miami.
Twenty-eight year old right-hander Zach Davies (6-9 5.26 ERA) will take the ball for the Cubs in this matchup. Last time out, Davies was rocked for seven runs and recorded just six outs during a 9-3 home loss versus the White Sox.
The Miami Marlins are a game above .500 at home and trying to climb out of the NL East Division cellar. On Friday, Miami OF Bryan De La Cruz hit a grand slam as part of an 11-run second inning outburst. All-Star 1B Jesus Aguilar homered and drove in three runs for the Marlins, who improved to 49-67 on the year.
Miami manager Don Mattingly has yet to name a starting pitcher for this contest. The Marlins currently rank 11th in the majors with a 3.76 team ERA and have logged 39 quality starts.
