Cubs vs Angels Picks and Prediction – 6/8/2023

The Chicago Cubs will be in Los Angeles Wednesday night for game two of three against the Los Angeles Angels. Chicago is seven games below .500 after losing three of the last five after a 5 run loss to San Diego in their last game. Kyle Hendricks got the start for Chicago giving up four runs on six hits across six innings leading to the loss. The Chicago bullpen had issues as well allowing one more run on three hits over the final two innings. 

Offensively, Chicago was nonexistent with only four hits in the game to leave eight men on base. Nico Hoerner has been the only real bright spot in the Chicago lineup this season carrying a .285 batting average and Dansby Swanson leads the team with 61 hits. Patrick Wisdom is one of the top power hitters in baseball with fourteen home runs and 28 RBIs through 51 games played.

The Los Angeles Angels return home Wednesday night one game above .500 on the year after a one run victory against the Houston Astros. Griffin Canning took the mound for Los Angeles giving up just one run on four hits across six innings resulting in a no decision. Chris Devenski came on in relief to allow no runs on one hit over the next five innings leading to the win. Carlos Estevez recorded the final four outs to pick up the save. 

Offensively Los Angeles did just enough from the plate with six hits in 31 at bats to score two runs in the game. Hunter Renigfo provided a huge spark for Los Angeles with one hit in three at bats to drive in one and score one run as well. Shohei Ohtani did his part from the leadoff spot with one hit in four at bats to drive in the second run of the game.
