On Saturday, St. Louis managed just three hits and struck out 12 times during a 3-1 home loss. SP Adam Wainwright struck out 11 batters in seven plus innings and took the loss for the Cardinals.
Twenty-three year old righty Jack Flaherty (11-8 2.75 ERA) will take the mound for the Cardinals in this matchup. Last time out, Flaherty struck out eight batters and allowed one run during a 13-1 series clinching road victory against Atlanta.
The Washington Nationals have allowed just one run through the first two games of this best-of-seven series and now return home in firm control. In Game Two, SP Max Scherzer struck out 11 batters and allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings. Michaal Taylor got the scoring started for the Nationals with a solo shot in the third inning.
The Nationals will turn to thirty-one year old righty Stephen Strasburg (18-6 3.32 ERA) on Monday. Through 15 innings this postseason, Strasburg has struck out 21 batters and owns a sparkling 0.80 WHIP.
