Two teams looking to advance to the NLCS will square off on Wednesday evening, when the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Atlanta Braves from SunTrust Park. On Monday, Yadier Molina delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly that scored Kolten Wong during the 10th inning of a 5-4 victory. Molina tied the game in the eighth inning with a run-scoring single for the Cardinals.
Rookie right-hander Jack Flaherty (11-8 2.75 ERA) will take the mound for the Cardinals in this matchup. In Game Two, Flaherty allowed three runs and struck out eight batters in seven innings during a 3-0 road loss.
The Atlanta Braves were four outs from eliminating St. Louis and now must win at home to advance to the NLCS. In Game Four, Atlanta 2B Ozzie Albies put his team up by a run with a two-run blast in the fifth inning. Ronald Acuna Jr. collected four hits in a losing effort for the Braves, who won 50 games at home during the regular season.
The Braves will counter with hard-throwing righty Mike Foltynewicz (8-6 4.54 ERA) in Game Five. Atlanta has won 10 of Foltynewicz’s last 11 starts and he has allowed just 17 runs total over that stretch.
