The Milwaukee Brewers open their final series of the season Friday on the road against the Colorado Rockies. Milwaukee clinched the second National League wildcard spot on Wednesday with a 9-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Ryan Braun belted a grand slam in the win and the victory also moved the Brewers to within just 1 ½ games of first place St. Louis in the NL Central.
Colorado lost to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday 2-1. Colorado reliever DJ Johnson gave up a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to San Francisco’s Jaylin Davis that gave the Giants the walk-off win against the Rockies. Colorado’s only run was unearned after Brandon Crawford committed a throwing error and Josh Fuentes scored on a missed catch by Brandon Belt.
With Christian Yelich out injured, the leading hitter for Milwaukee is Ryan Braun with a .289 batting average. Mike Moustakas leads in home runs with 35 and RBIs with 87. Milwaukee is averaging .247 at the plate. On Friday, the Brewers will send Zach Davies to the mound. The right-hander is 10-7 with an ERA of 3.61, 100 Ks and 50 BBs.
