Veteran right-hander Brandon McCarthy (4-2 5.05 ERA) will make his tenth start as a member of the Braves. Last time out, McCarthy allowed one run and struck out eight batters during a 4-1 victory versus the Cubs.
With last night’s victory, the Philadelphia Phillies moved to within a half-game of Atlanta for the division lead. SP Nick Pivetta struck out seven batters and allowed just four hits across seven frames to improve to 4-2 on the year. Nick Williams and Aaron Altherr each went deep to provide the offense for the Phillies.
Talented right-hander Vince Velasquez (4-4 4.37 ERA) will head to the hill for the Phillies in this contest. Velasquez has won three straight starts and has allowed four runs over his last 17 plus innings of work.
