In the first game of a Sunday NLDS doubleheader, the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals will square off from Busch Stadium. The Braves lost the series opener, but bounced back with a 3-0 home victory on Friday. SP Mike Foltynewicz struck out seven over seven innings and Adam Duvall crushed a two-run home run for the Braves.
Twenty-two year old righty Mike Soroka (13-4 2.68 ERA) will take the mound for the Braves in this matchup. Soroka was 7-1 with a 1.55 ERA and allowed a .205 batting average against on the road this season.
The St. Louis Cardinals won 50 of their 81 home games during the regular season and could win this best-of-five series with two straight home victories. In Game Two, St. Louis batters struck out 11 times and failed to record an extra-base hit. SP Jack Flahery struck out eight batters and allowed three runs in seven innings.
The Cardinals will counter with veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright (14-10 4.19 ERA) in Game Three. Wainwright was much better at home, where he posted a 9-4 record with a 2.56 ERA in 16 starts.
