Boston Red Sox at Miami Marlins 9/17/20 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Thursday MLB schedule will get underway with an interleague matchup between the Boston Red Sox and the Miami Marlins from Marlins Park. Boston shutout Miami in Tuesday’s series opener, but fell last night by an 8-4 final score. OF Alex Verdugo collected three hits and scored twice in a losing effort for the Red Sox, who fell to 18-32 overall.

Hard-throwing righty Nathan Eovaldi (2-2 4.82 ERA) will make his eight start of the season for the Red Sox. Through 37 plus innings, Eovaldi has struck out 37 batters and posted a respectable 1.29 WHIP.

The Miami Marlins have lost 12 of their 20 home games and are hanging on to second place in the NL East Division standings. On Wednesday, C Jorge Alfaro homered twice and drove in four runs to power the Miami offense. 1B Garrett Cooper also went deep and scored a pair of runs for the Marlins (25-22).

Miami manager Don Mattingly will give the nod to right-hander Jose Urena (0-1 7.71 ERA) on Thursday. Last time out, Urena was tagged for six runs (5 ER) in four plus innings during a 12-6 home loss versus Philadelphia.

Miami 2B Isan Diaz has landed on the injured list with a groin injury and will miss the rest of the season. Through 50 games, Boston ranks 9th in OPS and 16th in runs scored. Miami features an offense that ranks 24th in OPS and 23rd in runs scored. Take the Marlins to win the rubber game at home. Final Score Prediction, Miami Marlins win 5-3.
