Blue Jays at Red Sox 8/5/20 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Toronto Blue Jays travel on the road to historic Fenway Park to take on the struggling Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox snapped a four-game losing stream with a 5-0 road win over the Rays. The win put the Red Sox at 4-8 on the year. The Blue Jays bounced back from a three-game losing skid with a 2-1 win over the Braves to improve to 4-5 on the year.

The Red Sox pitching has been abysmal this season with a team ERA of 5.28, the worst mark in the MLB on the season. Opposing teams are hitting .264 which ranks second to last in the MLB.

The Red Sox have been solid at the plate coming in batting .254 as a team while averaging 4.3 runs per game. Starting catcher Christian Vazquez has been solid to start the year with 4 home runs, 10 RBIs, and batting .308 on the season.

Taking the mound for the Red Sox is Ryan Webber who has been awful in his two starts this season, going a combined 7 innings and posting an 11.57 ERA. Weber has surrendered 2 home runs, walked seven, and has yet to get a strikeout. Webber has bounced between the minors and MLB the last five years, posting a 3-11 record in the MLB with a 5.41 ERA.

The Toronto Blue Jays are batting .220 as a team and come in averaging just over 3 runs per game. The Blue Jays have gotten a big boost from left fielder Teoscar Hernandez who has hit four home runs, drove in 6 runs, and is hitting .278 which leads the team in all three categories.

Starting off the game for the Blue Jays will be Tanner Roark started the year off solid going 5 innings allowing just three hits and a run. Roark has bounced around in the last couple of years but has been a solid starter over his career posting a career ERA of 3.70 with a 2.9 strikeout to walk ratio. The Blue Jays come in with a team ERA of 3.83 and opposing teams are batting just .225 this season.

The Red Sox are one of the worst pitching staff in baseball and with a struggling Ryan Webber taking the mound, this will likely be more than the same. The Red Sox broke a four-game losing streak over the Rays. The Blue Jays have struggled to get on base but should be able to get into a groove against one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball. Tanner Roark picks up where he left off in his opening start and the bullpen holds on to get the win. Final score prediction, Blue Jays  win 8-5.
