A two-game interleague set will begin on Monday evening, when the Toronto Blue Jays invade the nation’s capital to face the Washington Nationals. On Sunday, Toronto closer Ken Giles was unable to protect a two-run ninth inning lead during a 6-5 loss in ten innings. SS Bo Bichette collected a pair of hits and drove in two runs for the Blue Jays, who have lost two of their first three games.

Twenty-six year old righty Trent Thornton (6-9 4.84 ERA) will draw the start for the Blue Jays in the series opener. Last season, Thornton surrendered 24 home runs and posted a 1.41 WHIP in 154 plus frames.

The World Series Champion Washington Nationals lost 3B Anthony Rendon in free agency and are searching for some pop in their lineup. On Sunday, the Nationals managed just seven hits during a 3-2 loss in the rubber game of their series with the New York Yankees. SP Patrick Corbin struck out eight batters across six plus frames and did not factor in the decision.

The Nationals will counter with veteran right-hander Anibal Sanchez (11-8 3.85 ERA) on Monday. Sanchez was clutch during Washington’s World Series title run and allowed a .709 OPS against during the regular season.

Washington OF Juan Soto (COVID-19) has yet to make his season debut and hopes to play in this series. Last season, Toronto ranked 23rd in OPS and 23rd in runs scored. Washington comes into this game with an offense that ranked 6th in OPS and 6th in runs scored in 2019. Take the Nationals to win the series opener. Final Score Prediction, Washington Nationals win 6-3.
