Athletics at Yankees 10/3/18 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The AL Wild Card game will take place on Wednesday night, when the Oakland Athletics invade the Bronx to take on the New York Yankees. The Athletics were 47-34 on the road during the regular season and finished 32 games above .500 overall. Oakland is led by slugger Khris Davis, who smashed 48 home runs and drove in 123 runs this year.

Oakland skipper Bob Melvin will turn to twenty-nine year old righty Liam Hendricks (0-1 4.13 ERA) as his opener. The Athletics have an extremely talented bullpen and ranked 11th in the majors with a 3.81 team ERA. The New York Yankees finished with the third most victories in the majors, but were unable to catch Boston for the AL East Division title. New York has won 53 of their 81 home games and have a punishing lineup that set a major league record with 267 home runs this season. Giancarlo Stanton was a consistent force in the middle of the lineup, finishing with 38 home runs and 100 RBIs.

All-Star righty Luis Severino (19-8 3.39 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees on Wednesday night. Severino struggled in the second half of the season, but finished strong by allowing just four runs over his last 17 plus innings.

Oakland SP Sean Manaea (shoulder) would have likely been the starter for this game if healthy and hopes to pitch at some point in 2019. Through 162 games, Oakland ranked 13th in batting average and 4th in runs scored. For the season, New York ranked 16th in batting average and 2nd in runs scored. Both teams can mash and this game will soar over the total. Final Score Prediction, New York Yankees win in high scoring over game 8-5.
