Two of the best teams in the American League will clash on Tuesday night, when the Houston Astros and New York Yankees battle in the Bronx. On Monday, SP Justin Verlander (7-2) allowed one run over six plus innings to lead the Astros to a 5-1 victory over the Yankees. J.D. Davis blasted a three-run home run for Houston, who leads Seattle by a game for the AL West Division lead.

Thirty-four year old righty Charlie Morton (7-0 2.04 ERA) has emerged as a potential Cy Young award candidate. Through 61 plus innings, Morton has struck out 75 batters and sports a 0.97 WHIP. The New York Yankees have split their last ten games and are 16 games above .500 overall. On Memorial Day, Greg Bird came off the disabled list and hit his first home run of the season for New York. Didi Gregorius added two hits for the Yankees, who trail Boston by two games for the AL East Division lead.

Thirty-seven year old southpaw C.C. Sabathia (2-1 3.55 ERA) will get the nod for the Yankees on Tuesday. New York has dropped Sabathia’s last three starts and he has allowed 13 runs over his last 13 plus innings of work.

Houston OF Josh Reddick is currently on the 10-day disabled list with a leg infection and will not return as soon as he is eligible. Through 55 games, Houston ranks 4th in batting average and 3rd in runs scored. For the season, New York ranks 9th in batting average and 1st in runs scored.
