After being rained out yesterday, Game Four of the ALCS between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees will take place on Thursday night from the Bronx. On Tuesday, SP Gerrit Cole struck out seven batters across seven shutout innings to pitch Houston to a 4-1 road victory. Jose Altuve and Josh Reddick each went deep for the Astros on the afternoon.
Thirty-five year old righty Zack Greinke (18-5 2.93 ERA) will take the mound for the Astros in this matchup. Through nine plus innings this postseason, Greinke has been tagged for five home runs and nine earned runs.
The New York Yankees possess the most potent offense in baseball, but were limited to just two extra base hits in Game Three. New York did not get on the scoreboard until Gleyber Torres connected on an eighth inning solo shot. SP Luis Severino gave up two runs in four plus innings and took the loss for the Yankees, who trail this best-of-seven series 2-1.
New York manager Aaron Boone will give the nod to right-hander Masahiro Tanaka (11-9 4.45 ERA) on Thursday. The Yankees have won each of Tanaka’s two postseason starts and he has allowed just one run in 11 innings of work.
