Kelly’s previous start came at home against the Giants on Sept. 24. He got the win by giving up just two earned runs in seven innings. Kelly allowed four hits, walked one and struck out six.

Alex Cobb is set to start for the 27th time this season for the Giants. He is 6-7 with a 3.67 ERA over 139 2/3 innings pitched. Cobb has allowed 136 hits, walked 42 and struck out 139. He last faced the Diamondbacks and Kelly on Sept. 24, taking the loss. Cobb gave up five hits and five earned runs in five innings while walking two and striking out three.

San Francisco’s hitters have not had much success against Kelly in their careers. In 191 at bats against the Diamondback righthander, they’ve hit just .194 and slugged .330 with an OPS of .567. Brandon Crawford and Mike Yastrzemski have faced Kelly the most with 34 ABs each. Crawford has 10 hits, including three doubles. Yastrzemski has just six hits off Kelly, but two have been home runs with one coming in that last meeting.

Arizona batters have hit .232 against Cobb, with 16 hits in 69 at bats, while slugging just .304. They have just one home run and two doubles against him. That homer and one of the doubles belong to Christian Walker, who has five hits in 11 at bats against Cobb. Walker was 1-for-3 with a hit, a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a strikeout in Cobb’s last start. Pavin Smith was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
