2020 National League MVP - Odds, Picks, & Betting Predictions

With the 2020 Major League Baseball season delayed because of the coronavirus outbreak, oddsmakers have had plenty of time to make adjustments to their futures board for the National League MVP award.  Several exceptionally talented players are bunched up at the top of the oddsmakers’ futures board, but only one will walk away with the coveted award.

The Dodgers acquired Mookie Betts from the Boston Red Sox during the off-season and the outfielder is favored to win the NL MVP in 2020. Betts (+550) was the 2018 American League MVP and only one player, Frank Robinson, has won the MVP award in both leagues. Betts will be protected in the deep Dodgers lineup by Corey Seager, Max Muncy and even fellow MVP candidate Cody Bellinger.

Bellinger (+700) has the second best odds to win the NL MVP. Last season Bellinger had an exceptionally strong first half of the season and was able to earn the NL MVP at season's end. However, in any professional sport it is very difficult to win consecutive MVP awards and baseball is no exception. Albert Pujols is the last player to win two straight National League MVPs in 2008 and 2009 with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich (+750) has the third best odds on the board for winning the NL MVP. Since joining the Brewers two seasons ago after being traded by the Miami Marlins, Yelich has been the best player in the National League topping all players in the league with a .415 on base percentage and 1.046 OPS over the past two seasons.Yelich was the 2018 NL MVP and if not for getting hurt late and missing the last 18 games of the regular season, the outfielder had a very strong case for winning the award again last year.

Odds to Win 2020 National League MVP

  • Mookie Betts (Dodgers)            +550
  • Cody Bellinger (Dodgers)         +700
  • Christian Yelich (Brewers)        +750
  • Juan Soto (Nationals)               +1000
  • Ronald Acuna Jr (Braves)        +1000
  • Fernando Tatis Jr (Padres)       +1000
  • Nolan Arenado (Rockies)          +1400
  • Bryce Harper (Phillies)              +1400
  • Javy Baez (Cubs)                     +2200

The odds are stacked against Mookie Betts to win the National League MVP award since only one player in the history of Major League Baseball has won the award in both leagues. In addition, Betts will be playing in the same lineup as another favorite to win the NL MVP Cody Bellinger, who won the coveted award last season. Betts and Bellinger will cancel each other out and Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich will win his second NL MVP in the last three seasons in 2020.
