WVU at Texas Tech 9/29/18 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The West Virginia Mountaineers (3-0) visit Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas for a Big 12 clash against the Texas Tech Red Raiders (3-1). The Mountaineers defeated the Kansas State Wildcats 35-6 on Saturday in their Big 12 opener. Will Grier threw for five touchdowns to lead the Mountaineers to a convincing 29-point win. Grier finished with 356 yards passing with three of five touchdowns passes going to David Sills. Grier did throw a pair of interceptions as well.

Texas Tech won for the third time in four games on Saturday upsetting the Oklahoma State Cowboys 41-17. Alan Bowman passed for 397 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Demarcus Felton rushed for two touchdowns in the Red Raiders win. Texas Tech won for the first time in 10 games against the Cowboys. The nation’s leading offense finished the game with 621 total yards. West Virginia quarterback Will Grier has thrown for 1,117 yards, 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. Leddie Brown leads all rushers with 171 yards and one touchdown, while Kennedy McKay has rushed for 167 yards and one touchdown. Marcus Simms leads three receivers with 200-plus yards with 15 receptions for 295 yards and one touchdown. David Sills has 19 receptions for 246 yards and five touchdowns.

Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman has thrown for 1,557 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. Ta’Zhawn Henry leads the Red Raiders in rushing with 231 yards and six touchdowns. Antoine Wesley leads Texas Tech in receiving with 30 receptions for 511 yards and four touchdowns, while Ja’Deion High has 22 receptions for 301 yards and two touchdowns.

These are two high octane offenses that could put 90-plus points on the scoreboard with the last team with possession winning the game. Both teams have top quarterbacks, but West Virginia has the experienced QB in Will Grier while Alan Bowman is just a freshman for Texas Tech. That alone is worth a turnover or two in West Virginia’s favor. Look for a shootout in Lubbock with the Mountaineers winning and covering. Final Score Prediction, West Virginia win and cover ATS 49-42.
