Western Kentucky at Old Dominion 10/5/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are set to visit S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia for a C-USA clash against the Old Dominion Monarchs. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers come into this matchup with a 2-2 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent home game against the UAB Blazers, 20-13. QB Ty Storey had an efficient game for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers as he threw for 189 yards and 2 TDs. Junior WR Jahcour Pearson was Storey and the Hilltoppers top playmaker as he hauled in 5 catches for 94 yards and a TD.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were very good on the defensive side of the ball against the UAB Blazers as they held them to 13 points and a total of 298 yards of offense. Junior DB Devon Key led the way for the Western Kentucky defense as he racked up 12 tackles. Junior DL DeAngelo Malone was able to get into the UAB backfield a handful of times as he pitched in 2 sacks. Kyle Bailey, Jeremy Darvin, and Trae Meadows were able to combine for 4 interceptions for the Hilltoppers.

The Old Dominion Monarchs come into this matchup with a 1-3 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent home game against the East Carolina Pirates, 24-21. Stone Smartt struggled to get much going through the air for the Monarchs as he threw for 203 yards and 2 interceptions, but he was able to rack up 76 yards and a TD on the ground. Freshman WR Nigel Fitzgerald was the leading receiver for the Monarchs as he racked up 45 yards.

The Old Dominion Monarchs were solid on the defensive side of the ball against the East Carolina Pirates as they held them to 24 points while forcing 3 turnovers. Junior LB Lawrence Garner led the way for the Old Dominion defense with 10 tackles and half a TFL. Junior DT Juwan Ross was able to get into the Pirates backfield a handful of times as he contributed 2 TFL. Geronda Hall and Jordan Young were able to haul in interceptions for the Old Dominion defense.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were able to kick off conference play with an impressive win over the defending C-USA champions in the UAB Blazers while Old Dominion has been shaky with a 1-3 record. The Hilltoppers were very good on the defensive side of the ball against an experienced QB in Tyler Johnston III as they forced him into 4 interceptions, and that could be a backbreaker for the Monarchs as they have received inconsistent play out of Stone Smartt. The Hilltoppers went with their SEC transfer Ty Storey against UAB and he looks like he could be the starter the rest of the way as he had an efficient game. Old Dominion is a young team and they have kept their games relatively close this year, but I don’t think they will have much success against an improved team. Final Score Prediction, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers win and cover ATS 31-21.
