Virginia Tech vs Old Dominion Picks and Prediction – 9/14/2024

In Week 3 of the NCAA football season, the Virginia Tech Hokies travel to Norfolk to take on the Old Dominion Monarchs in an exciting in-state clash. Virginia Tech, a perennial ACC contender, will look to solidify their early-season form, while Old Dominion aims to pull off an upset in front of their home crowd. The Virginia Tech Hokies (1-1) enter the contest after a strong rebound performance against Marshall. Quarterback Kyron Drones has been efficient through the air, with over 450 passing yards and three touchdowns in the opening two games. Drones’ connection with wide receiver Stephen Gosnell (126 yards) has been a key to the Hokies’ offensive success, while running back Bhayshul Tuten has also contributed 154 rushing yards.

Old Dominion (0-2) comes into the game looking to bounce back from two close losses in their previous matchups. The Monarchs’ offense is led by quarterback Grant Wilson, who has thrown for nearly 400 yards and three total touchdowns in the first two games. Wilson's ability to find wide receiver Isiah Page, who has been a consistent deep threat, has lead to 131 receiving yards. On defense, the Monarchs did a decent job holding two tough teams, Eastern Carolina and South Carolina to 20 and 23 points respectively.

Virginia Tech had a lot of hype coming into the season with several star players returning. The Hokies have been disappointing thus far, however. With a shock loss to Vandy, and a competitive game against Marshall, we do not like them to cover two touchdowns on the road. Take Old Dominion to keep it close and cover. Prediction: VT wins, but does not cover, 27-17.
