Virginia at Notre Dame 9/28/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Virginia Cavaliers are set to visit Notre Dame Stadium in Notre Dame, Indiana for a Week 5 clash against the Notre Dane Fighting Irish. The Virginia Cavaliers come into this matchup with a 4-0 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent home game against the Old Dominion Monarchs, 28-17. QB Bryce Perkins had an effective all-around game for the Cavaliers as he threw for 175 yards and a TD while adding in a rushing TD. WR Jordan Reed was once again the top Cavaliers playmakers as he hauled in 4 catches for 40 yards and a TD.

The Virginia Cavaliers were solid on the defensive side of the ball against the Old Dominion Monarchs as they held them to 17 points and a total of 270 yards of offense. Junior LB Charles Snowden had a huge game for the Virginia Cavaliers as he contributed a team-high 15 tackles while pitching in 3.5 TFL and 2 sacks. Junior LB Zane Zandier was able to haul in the lone interception of the game for the Virginia Cavaliers which he returned for a TD.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish come into this matchup with a 2-1 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the Georgia Bulldogs, 23-17. QB Ian Book had an inconsistent game for the Fighting Irish as he connected on 29 of his 47 pass attempts for 2 TDs and 2 interceptions. Junior TE Cole Kmet led the way for Notre Dame with 9 receptions for 108 yards and a TD.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish showed improvement on the defensive side of the ball as they held one of the best offenses in the nation to 23 points and a total of 339 yards of offense. Sophomore LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah led the way for the Fighting Irish with 8 tackles and 2.5 TFL while LB Drew White pitched in 2 TFL. Sophomore DB Tariq Bracy had a solid game from the secondary for the Fighting Irish as he contributed 2 pass deflections.

The Virginia Cavaliers have been very impressive to start the season as they rank inside the top 25, and they will be hungry to prove their worth against a very good Notre Dame team. The Fighting Irish played a hard-fought game against the Georgia Bulldogs before running out of gas, but I am led to believe that they will be in hangover mode against the Cavaliers. Virginia has been amazing on the defensive side of the ball this season as they rank inside the top 30 in points allowed, and they should keep this game close against the Fighting Irish as they have been one-dimensional for the most part with their pass game. Final Score Prediction, Notre Dame Fighting Irish win but fail to cover ATS 30-21.
