UTEP at UAB 11/16/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The UTEP Miners are set to visit Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama for a C-USA Clash against the UAB Blazers. The UTEP Miners come into this matchup with a 1-8 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent home game against the Charlotte 49ers, 28-21. Senior QB Kai Locksley had a solid game through the air as he connected on 15 of his 20 pass attempts for 215 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception while also adding 84 rushing yards and a TD. Freshman WR Jacob Cowing was the top target for Locksley and the Miners as he hauled in 6 catches for 145 yards.

The UTEP Miners struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the Charlotte Miners as they allowed them to score 28 points and rack up a total of 483 yards of offense. Senior DB Justin Rogers led the way for the UTEP defense with 10 tackles. Senior DB Michael Lewis had a productive game from the secondary for the Miners as he contributed 8 tackles while hauling in the lone interception of the game.

The UAB Blazers come into this matchup with a 6-3 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, 37-2. Freshman QB Dylan Hopkins struggled to get much offense generated through the air for UAB as he threw for 103 yards and 2 interceptions. Junior WR Austin Watkins was the top target for Hopkins and the Blazers as he hauled in 4 catches for 74 yards.

The UAB Blazers struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles as they held them to 37 points and a total of 325 yards of offense. Sophomore LB Noah Wilder led the way for the UAB defense with 12 tackles and half a TFL. The Blazers were able to get into the Southern Mississippi backfield a handful of times as LB Jordan Smith, DL Garrett Marino, and LB Alex Wright combined for 6.5 TFL and 3 sacks.

The UAB Blazers have dominated the number against the UTEP Miners as of recent as they have gone 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings. The UTEP Miners have been awful this season which is evident in their record, but the reason that they have struggled is that they rank 115th in points scored and 118th in points allowed. UAB hasn’t found much success on the offensive side of the ball this season and they are now down to a backup QB, but they have been amazing on the defensive side of the ball as they are holding opponents to an average of 19.7 PPG. UAB should be able to force the UTEP QBs into a ton of mistakes in this game as the Miners have thrown 5 TDs compared to 6 interceptions, and that should help give the UAB offense prime field position to capitalize at home. Final Score Prediction, UAB Blazers win and cover ATS 35-9.
