Utah vs Texas 12/31/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Valero Alamo Bowl will take place on New Year’s Eve, when the Utah Utes and Texas Longhorns square off from the Alamodome. The 11th ranked Utes won 11 games during the regular season and missed out on a chance of playing in the College Football Playoff when they lost to Oregon by a 37-15 final score in the Pac 12 Championship Game. Utah was outgained by a 432-309 margin and turned the ball over twice on the night.

Zack Moss got the Utes on the scoreboard with a 24-yard touchdown reception from Tyler Huntley. Samson Nacua caught the other touchdown pass from Huntley as Utah cut the lead to 23-15.

The Texas Longhorns finished tied for third in the Big 12 Conference, but overall it was another disappointing season for head coach Tom Herman. The Longhorns (7-5) lost four of their final seven games and allowed 29 points per game. In their final regular season game, Texas rallied from an early 14-point deficit to score a 49-24 home victory versus Texas Tech.

Junior QB Sam Ehlinger completed 19 of his 27 passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns. Roschon Johnson carried 23 times for 105 yards and three touchdowns for the Longhorns.

These two schools have met just once, with Texas winning by a 21-12 final score in 1982. The Utes are in a natural let down spot after missing out on the playoffs and lack the passing attack to take advantage of a weak Texas secondary. Take the Longhorns to pull off the upset. Final Score Prediction, Texas Longhorns win and cover ATS 27-24.
