The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will kick off their season Friday night with the Massachusetts Minutemen in town. The Scarlet Knights finished last season with a very disappointing 1-11 record. Rutgers won their season opener last year followed by 11 straight loses and of course no bowl game appearance. The Scarlet Knights may not be favored to win many more games this season but they do return 15 starters from last season which will give them some experience.

Chris Ash will enter his 4th season as they Rutgers head coach. Ash is coming off his worse season with just one win last year but carries a losing 7-29 record through 36 games. Chris Ash had just 4 wins in 2017 which was his most successful season.
The Massachusetts Minutemen look to improve on a 4-8 finish to the season last year. The Minutemen beat four bad teams last season and two of those teams were not even FBS teams. Massachusetts features a very young team this season and will be without many of their play makers from a year ago.

Walt Bell steps in as his first season as the Rutgers head coach. Bell was the offensive coordinator for Florida State last season and he will be the man to try to turn this Rutgers team into a winning tradition. Bell is just 34 years old and will have an extremely young team to deal with this season. Bell was a former college wide receiver which will give this Rutgers offense a boost.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are a bigger favorite in their home opener than they have been in a long time. Rutgers may bring back more experience than the Minutemen but they will have to prove themselves before more than two touchdowns. Massachusetts may not be a very good team again this season but expect them to be in the game in this season opener. Final Score Prediction, Rutgers Scarlet Knights win but fall short ATS 31-23.
