UMASS at LA Tech 10/12/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The UMass Minutemen are set to visit Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston, Louisiana for a Week 7 clash against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. The UMass Minutemen come into this matchup with a 1-5 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the FIU Panthers, 44-0. QB Michael Curtis struggled to get anything going through the air for the Minutemen as he connected on 5 of his 19 pass attempts for 66 yards and 2 interceptions. The ground attack was bottled up for UMass as RB Bilal Alley was only able to squeeze out 24 rushing yards on 9 carries.

The UMass Minutemen struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the FIU Panthers as they allowed them to score 44 points and rack up a total of 541 yards of offense. Senior safety Martin Mangram led the way for the UMass defense with 10 tackles while also recovering a fumble. Junior LB Chinedu Ogbonna was able to get into the FIU backfield a handful of times as he contributed 6 tackles, 2 TFL, and a sack.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs come into this matchup with a 4-1 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent road game against the Rice Owls, 23-20 in OT. QB J’Mar Smith struggled to find a rhythm through the air for the Bulldogs as he connected on 21 of his 39 pass attempts for 210 yards and a TD. Junior WR Adrian Hardy was the top target for Smith and the Bulldogs as he hauled in 6 catches for 78 yards and a TD.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs struggled on the defensive side of the ball as they allowed the Rice Owls to score 20 points and rack up a total of 338 yards of offense. Senior safety L’Jarius Sneed led the way for the Louisiana Tech defense with 8 tackles and half a TFL. The secondary had a productive game for the Bulldogs as Amik Robertson contributed 7 tackles and 2 pass deflections while Darryl Lewis hauled in the lone interception of the game.

The UMass Minutemen are one of the worst teams in the nation this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball as they rank dead last in college football in points allowed this season. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs have a very experienced QB under center in J’Mar Smith who should have no problem carving up the Minutemen. The Minutemen struggled to find any offense against the FIU Panthers as their starting QB only completed 5 of his 19 pass attempts, and that won’t fly against a very good team in the LA Tech Bulldogs. UMass will struggle to get anything going on the road as they don’t have the talent to compete with one of the C-USA finest. Final Score Prediction, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs win and cover ATS 45-3.
