UCF vs Marshall 12/23/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The UCF Knights and Marshall Thundering Herd are set to visit Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida as they will meet in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. The UCF Knights come into this matchup with a 9-3 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent road game against the USF Bulls, 34-7. Freshman QB Dillon Gabriel had a solid game through the air for UCF as he connected on 23 of their 39 field goal attempts for 270 yards and 2 TDs. Junior WR Gabriel Davis was the top target for Gabriel and the Knights as he hauled in 8 catches for 106 yards and 2 TDs.

The UCF Knights were good on the defensive side of the ball against the USF Bulls as they held them to 7 points and a total of 250 yards of offense. Senior LB Nate Evans led the way for the UCF defense as he recorded 8 tackles and a half a TFL. The secondary had a productive outing for the Knights as junior DB Antwan Collier contributed 7 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception while junior safety Richie Grant pitched in 6 tackles, 1 TFL, and 1 pass deflection.

The Marshall Thundering Herd come into this matchup with an 8-4 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent home game against the Florida International Panthers, 30-27 in OT. Sophomore QB Isaiah Green wasn’t asked to do much through the air for Marshall as he connected on 9 of his 20 pass attempts for 90 yards and 1 TD. Sophomore RB Brenden Knox had a big game on the ground for the Thundering Herd as he ran for 146 yards and a TD on 33 carries.

The Marshall Thundering Herd were solid on the defensive side of the ball against the Florida International Panthers as they held them to a total of 24 points in regulation and 322 yards. Senior LB Omari Cobb led the way for the Marshall defense with 10 tackles and 1 pass deflection. Junior LB Tavante Beckett had a big outing for the Thundering Herd as he contributed 8 tackles and 1 interception.

The UCF Knights are the far superior team in this matchup, but Marshall has been amazing in bowl games over the last few years, especially from a betting standpoint as they have covered in 7 straight games. The Thundering Herd have been good on the defensive side of the ball this season as they are holding their opponents to an average of 23.1 PPG, and they will make the explosiveness of UCF a priority in their scheme. The Thundering Herd offense has been inconsistent with Isaiah Green under center (14 TDs to 9 INTs), but Brenden Knox has been the backbone for the unit as he has compiled1284 rushing yards and 11 TDs this season. Marshall will look to get a couple of stops on the defensive side of the ball and force freshman QB Dillon Gabriel into mistakes, and I think they do enough to keep this game within the number. Final Score Prediction, UCF Knights win but fail to cover ATS 35-24.
