Tulsa at South Florida 10/16/21 - College Football Picks & Predictions

he Tulsa Golden Hurricanes will hope to build off a big win last week when they travel on the road to Raymond James Stadium to take on the South Florida Bulls. Tulsa beat Memphis 35-29 last week to improve to 2-4 on the year, they were outgained by nearly 200 yards in that game but held on to win late in the fourth quarter.  USF has been one of the worst teams in college football this season, they were beaten 41-17 by SMU last week dropping to 1-4 on the year.

Tulsa has had a lot of success moving the ball, averaging an impressive 444.3 yards per game but has struggled with turnovers and is averaging just 24.3 points per game. They’ve played an extremely tough schedule including now-#12 Oklahoma State and #9 Ohio State on the road and a tough game against Houston.

Davis Brin, a junior out of Texas, was named the starter early in the year but struggled to get it going completing just 58.2% of his passes with eight interceptions. Brin put together a turnover-free outing in his last start as Tulsa lead on their running game in the win over Tulsa. Tulsa is running the ball for 169.5 yards per game, led by Shamari Brooks with 416 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Tulsa’s struggles have been on the defensive side of the ball where they’re allowing 32.7 points and 433 yards per game. Of course, the turnovers haven’t helped their cause at all this season. Memphis racked up 614 yards of total offense against the Tulsa defense, but the Hurricanes forced two interceptions and recovered a fumble.

South Florida has struggled to get anything going on the offensive end, they’re averaging just 20.4 points and 333.6 yards per game. Freshman Timmy Mcclain has taken over as the starter, it hasn’t been pretty as he completes just 58.7% of his passes for 781 yards and two interceptions. McClain adds a second dimension with his legs, and with the post-season already effectively out of play they’re rolling with the younger option.

The Bulls defense has been unable to get the stops they need, although to their credit it’s been a tough start, facing high-powered offenses like Florida, SMU, BYU and NC State. The Bulls are allowing 496.4 yards and 36 points per game, teams have had success doing whatever they want wheteher it’s through the air or on the ground.

USF is a member on my personal “Do Not Bet” list, they’re defense has struggled to stop anyone and although Tulsa has had their issues with turnovers, they’ll steamroll this Bulls defense. USF is in a rebuilding period with a freshman starting at quarterback, they haven’t been able to get anything going offensively and even at home shouldn’t be anything under double-digit underdogs for the rest of the season. Final score prediction, Tulsa wins and covers ATS 41-21.
