Toledo at Northern Illinois 12/5/20 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Toledo Rockets are set to visit Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, Illinois for a MAC clash against the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Toledo Rockets come into this matchup with a 2-2 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent home game against the Ball State Cardinals, 27-24. QB Eli Peters had a big game through the air for Toledo as he connected on 27 of his 36 pass attempts for 363 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 interception. WR Isaiah Winstead was the top target for Peters and the Rockets as he hauled in 6 catches for 113 yards and 1 TD.

The Toledo Rockets struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the Ball State Cardinals as they allowed them to score 27 points and rack up a total of 447 yards of offense. Safety Tycen Anderson and DE Jamal Hines led the way for the Toledo defense with a combined 22 tackles. The secondary had a productive outing for the Rockets as safety Nate Bauer hauled in the lone interception of the game as well as pitching in 8 tackles.

The Northern Illinois Huskies come into this matchup with a 0-4 record, and thy will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the Western Michigan Broncos, 30-27. QB Ross Bowers had a productive game through the air for Northern Illinois as he threw for 230 yards and 2 TDs. WR Tyrice Richie was the top target for Bowers and the Huskies as he hauled in 12 catches for 131 yards and a TD.

The Northern Illinois Huskies were solid on the defensive side of the ball against the Western Michigan Broncos as they held them to 23 points and a total of 325 yards of offense. CB Jordan Gandy led the way for the Northern Illinois defense with 7 tackles and 5 pass breakups. The Huskies were able to get into the Western Michigan backfield a handful of times as DT Weston Kramer had 1.5 TFLs and 1 sack while LB Daveren Rayner had 1 TFL and 1 sack.

I have consistently said that Northern Illinois is a solid team that is still piecing together their roster, and we saw what they were capable of in their recent game as they went wire-to-wire with arguably the best team in the MAC. The Huskies have a very good WR in Tyrice Richie as he leads the team with 39 receptions for 415 yards and 2 TDs, and he should be able to find some room against a Toledo defense that struggled against the Ball State air game. The Toledo Rockets will need to get their ground game going against Northern Illinois as they only compiled 42 yards as a team against Ball State, and I believe that Northern Illinois will try to sell out on the run to keep this game close. Final Score Prediction, Toledo Rockets win but fail to cover ATS 34-27.
