Texas State at SMU 9/14/19 - NCAA Football Picks & Predictions

The Texas State Bobcats are set to visit Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas for a Week 3 clash against the SMU Mustangs. The Texas State Bobcats come into this matchup with a 0-2 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping a recent home game to the Wyoming Cowboys, 23-14. QB Gresch Jensen attempted 54 passes against Wyoming and while he compiled 394 yards and a TD, he was responsible for 2 interceptions. WR Hutch White was the Bobcats go to WR against Wyoming as he hauled in 10 catches for 96 yards.

The Texas State Bobcats struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the Wyoming Cowboys as they allowed 23 points, but one positive was their pass defense as they allowed only 103 yards. Senior LB Nikolas Daniels had a good game for the Texas State Bobcats as he compiled 11 tackles, 1 TFL, and 1 pass deflection. Kordell Rodgers was able to stiffen up in the backend of the defense with 2 pass deflections while A.J. Taylor contributed the lone interception.

The SMU Mustangs come into this matchup with a 2-0 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent home game against the North Texas Mean Green, 49-27. QB Shane Buechele had a big game for the SMU Mustangs as he connected on 21 of his 31 pass attempts for 292 yards and 2 TDs. RB Xavier Jones supplemented the aerial attack well as the senior ran for 127 yards and 3 TDs.

The SMU Mustangs struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the North Texas Mean Green as they allowed 27 points and a total of 396 yards on offense. Senior safety Rodney Clemons had a big game for the SMU Mustangs as he led the way with 9 tackles and 1 pass deflection. Senior safety Patrick Nelson joined Clemons in the solid play from the secondary as he contributed 7 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 interception.

The SMU Mustangs were very impressive in their win last week against a good North Texas team as they won by 22 points while Texas State has suffered disappointing losses in back-to-back weeks. The Mustangs are improved on the offensive side of the ball, which is in part to Texas transfer QB Shane Buechele, and he should have no problem moving the ball against Texas State. The dangerous part of the SMU Mustangs is they have one of the better backs in the AAC with Xavier Jones who is coming off a 3 TD performance which means Texas State will pick their position on the road. While SMU has failed to put fear into teams on the defensive side of the ball, Texas State has not shown me anything which points to a shootout. Final Score Prediction, SMU Mustangs win and cover ATS 41-17.
