Texas at Rice 9/14/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The No. 12 ranked Texas Longhorns visit NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on Saturday to play the Rice Owls. The Longhorns were defeated by the LSU Tigers on Saturday 45-38 and fell to 1-1. Texas battled back from a 20-7 halftime deficit to within two points after three quarters but came up short in the end. The Texas secondary was porous as the Longhorns gave up four touchdowns through the air.

Rice lost its second straight on Friday after falling to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 41-21. Rice starting quarterback Wiley Green was injured during the first quarter and replaced by Tom Steward who threw for 185 yards and one touchdown. Rice was tied at 14-all with Wake at one point but allowed the Demon Deacons 27 unanswered points.

Sam Ehlinger has thrown for 677 yards and eight touchdowns for the Longhorns. The leading rusher is Keaontay Ingram with 21 carries for 107 yards and one touchdown, while Ehlinger has rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown. The leading receiver is Devin Dunvernay with 21 receptions for 209 yards and three touchdowns.

Tom Steward leads Rice in passing with 185 yards and one touchdown. Nahshon Ellerbe is the leading rusher with 14 carries for 106 yards and one touchdown, while Aston Walter has rushed for 26 carries for 101 yards and one touchdown. Brad Rozner is the leading receiver with seven receptions for 109 yards.

Rice lost starting quarterback Wiley Green, who is expected to miss Saturday’s game with Texas. The Longhorns lost a tough game against the LSU Tigers but with Sam Ehlinger under center are a dangerous offense for any opponent, but the spread of four-plus touchdowns is difficult to cover. Take the points and the home dog to come in just under the number. Final Score Prediction, Texas Longhorns win but fall short ATS 41-14.
