Tennessee at Purdue 12/30/21 - TransPerfect Music City Bowl Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 12/11/2021 at 4:54 PM ET

In Thursday afternoon college football action, the Tennessee Volunteers will square off against the Purdue Boilermakers in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl. The Volunteers (7-5) are drastically improved on offense for first year head coach Josh Heupel and rank 22nd nationally in scoring (38.8 ppg). Last time out, Tennessee rolled up 441 yards of total offense during a 45-21 home victory versus Vanderbilt.

Theo Jackson put Tennessee on the scoreboard first with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown. WR Cedric Tillman caught six passes for 106 yards and found the end zone twice for the Volunteers.

The Purdue Boilermakers won six of their nine Big Ten Conference games, including victories over two Top-Five opponents. In their regular season finale, Purdue outscored Indiana by 27 points during the second half of a 44-7 home victory. The Boilermakers (8-4) outgained the Hoosiers by a 447-204 margin.

Purdue QB Aidan O’Connell, who started his career as a walk-on, finished with 278 yards passing and four touchdowns. Talented WR David Bell hauled in six passes for 79 yards and a score.

Both programs are on the rise and Purdue won the only previous meeting back in 1979. Purdue WR David Bell and  DE Karlaftis have both declared for the NFL Draft and will not play in this game. I like both offenses to find success in a game that will go over the total. Final Score Prediction, Tennessee Volunteers win 38-34.
