Southern Utah vs Texas-El Paso Picks and Prediction – 9/8/2024

The Southern Utah Thunderbirds will be on the road in Week 2 for a matchup in El Paso against the UTEP Miners. Southern Utah is winless in 2024 following an abysmal 49 point blowout loss against Utah in week one. Offensively Southern Utah was horrible in week 1 compiling just 150 yards resulting in zero points scored. Jackson Berry led the way for the Southern Utah offense completing 6 passes for 54 yards in the game. Two other quarterbacks combined to complete 2 of 10 passes for 17 total yards. Targhee Lambson led the way on the ground with 44 yards on 6 carries. Mark Mails proved to be the primary target for southern Utah with 42 yards on three receptions in week one.

The UTEP Miners will go home for the first time this season in Week 2 following a 33 point loss on the road against Nebraska during opening week. The UTEP offense was nearly nonexistent compiling just 205 yards to score 7 points after scoring nothing in three out of four quarters. Defensively southern UTEP was obliterated giving up 40 points on 507 total yards.

Sklyer Locklear led the way for the UTEP offense completing 11 passes for 115 yards and one score. Two other UTEP quarterbacks combined to complete 5 passes for 34 total yards. Jevon Jackson was the biggest spark on the ground with 32 yards on 10 carries. Kam Thomas led the team with 71 yards and one score on 7 receptions.

Both teams had a ton of issues in week 1 as each will look to bounce back in week two. Look for UTEP to do the work on both sides of the balls it will thrive in front of their home fans.
