The Southern Utah Thunderbirds enter the 2021 season after an abysmal 1-5 season in the spring 2021. Southern Utah wasn't as bad as their record showed as 4 of their 5 losses was by a total of 15 points. Southern Utah will look to build on the few positives from this past spring leaning on their young QB to lead the way.
The Thunderbirds have a strong defense despite the numbers in the 2021 spring season. This will be the last year in the conference for Southern Utah meaning the Thunderbirds will look to go out strong. There are still lots of questions to be answered for this team but week 1 against SJSU will shine light on the possibilities of this season.
San Jose State came out of no where in 2020 finishing the season 7-1 after securing a conference title. The offense was good all year in 2020 and with 9 of the 11 starters this team will again be a force to be reckoned with. Nick Starkel will again be under center and has the talent and tools around him to again have the Spartans atop the Mountain West.
Defensively SJSU will again be one of the tops in the conference with the bulk of the starters back led by 2 of the best defensive ends in the conference. The Spartans pass rush will be the teams bread and butter as opposing offenses will struggle to get the ball off. This team is elite and will build off the past 2 years to take 2021 to the next level as SJSU is hunting for that elusive bowl.
