Southern Miss at Troy 10/8/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Troy Trojans hosts the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Oct. 8. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 8-3, but the Trojans won, 21-9, at Southern Miss last season.    

Southern Miss is 2-2 overall, 1-1 on the road and perfect against the spread this season. Troy is 3-2 overall and 2-0 at home. The Trojans are 4-1 against the spread overall and 1-1 ATS at home.

The Golden Eagles had a week off after getting a 27-24 upset victory at Tulane. Southern Miss was a 12-point underdog, and the O/U was 48.5. Zach Wilcke connected on 17-of-25 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Frank Gore Jr. was the leading rusher with 16 carries for 44 yards. Jakarius Caston caught eight passes for 91 yards and a score.

Troy was a 5.5-point underdog in its 34-27 win at Western Kentucky on Saturday. The O/U was 54.5. Starting quarterback Gunnar Watson was injured in the game and replaced by Jarret Doege. Doege, who transferred to Troy from Western Kentucky late in the offseason, proceeded to throw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to get the win against his former team. Doege connected on seven of his eight passes for 71 yards.

Southern Miss is averaging 31.3 points a game on offense and giving up 23.3 per game. Tory has scored 25.2 points per game, while allowing 22.2. The Trojans are averaging more yards on offense (410.4 to 365) and allowing fewer on defense (377.8 to 395.5) than the Golden Eagles.
