South Florida at Notre Dame 9/19/20 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The South Florida Bulls are set to visit Notre Dame Stadium in Notre Dame, Indiana for a Week 3 clash against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The South Florida Bulls come into this matchup with a 1-0 record, and they opened the season with a win against the Citadel Bulldogs, 27-6. Sophomore QB Jordan McCloud had a solid game through the air for the Bulls as he connected on 11 of his 16 pass attempts for 68 yards and 1 TD. The Bulls were able to do the majority of their damage on the ground as sophomore RB Kelley Joiner ran for 87 yards and 1 TD on 8 carries while sophomore RB Johnny Ford pitched in 9 carries for 71 yards.

The South Florida Bulls were good on the defensive side of the ball as they held the Citadel Bulldogs to 6 points and 284 yards of offense while also coming up with 3 turnovers. LB Antonio Grier had a big game for the Bulls as he recorded 10 tackles and 1 sack. Junior DB Mekhi LaPointe had a solid game from the secondary as he pitched in 4 tackles and 1 interception. South Florida was able to get into the backfield a handful of times as Bentlee Sanders and Dwayne Boyles combined for 3 TFL.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish come into this matchup with a 1-0 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent home game against the Duke Blue Devils, 27-13. QB Ian Book had a solid game through the air as he connected on 19 of his 31 pass attempts for 263 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception. Sophomore RB Kyren Williams had a big game out of the backfield for the Fighting Irish as he ran for 112 yards and 2 TDS on 19 carries while also pitching in 93 receiving yards.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were solid on the defensive side of the ball as they held the Duke Blue Devils to 13 points on 332 yards of offense while also forcing 2 turnovers. Senior LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah led the way for the Fighting Irish as he contributed 9 tackles, 2 TFL, and 1 sack. The secondary had a productive outing for the Fighting Irish as sophomore DB Kyle Hamilton had 7 tackles and 1 pass deflection while junior CB Tariq Bracy pitched in 2 pass defelections.

The South Florida Bulls will be a much better team than they were in past years as they have talent and a good coaching staff, and there are some questions lingering after seeing Notre Dame against Duke. The South Florida Bulls are giving sophomore QB Jordan McCloud another chance at starting after struggling last year, but they made it evident that they want to establish the ground attack with Joiner and Ford which limits McCloud’s ability to make any mistakes. Ian Book had to adjust to life without his top 3 targets from last season, but they were able to establish a ground game with Williams which is a promising sign. USF held a run-first Citadel team in check, and even though they are an FCS team, I like what I saw out of the Bulls. Final Score Prediction, Notre Dame Fighting Irish win but fail to cover ATS 31-13.
