Bank of America Stadium will play host to a regional showdown between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. The Tar Heels (6-6) were ranked tenth in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll, but failed to live up to expectations. In their regular season finale, North Carolina surrendered two touchdowns in the final two minutes of a 34-30 road loss against NC State.

Grayson Atkins kicked three field goals including a 50-yard boot that gave North Carolina a 30-21 lead with 2:12 remaining. Sam Howell threw a touchdown and ran for two scores in a losing effort for the Tar Heels.

The South Carolina Gamecocks lost five of their eight SEC Conference games and struggled to find consistent offensive production (21.3 ppg). Last time out, South Carolina failed to find the end zone during a 30-0 home loss versus Clemson. The Gamecocks (6-6) were outgained by a 364-206 margin and turned the ball over twice in defeat.

Graduate transfer QB Zeb Noland completed 11 of 22 passes for 96 yards and finished with a dismal 33.8 QBR. South Carolina WR Josh Vann caught four passes for 38 yards.

Things did not work out as planned in Chapel Hill this season, but they have a solid recruiting class and will look to make a statement heading into next year. The Gamecocks lack the offensive firepower to expose the Tar Heels. Take North Carolina to cover. Final Score Prediction, North Carolina Tar Heels win 37-20.
