SMU at TCU 9/21/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The SMU Mustangs are set to visit Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas for a Week 4 clash against the TCU Horned Frogs. The SMU Mustangs come into this matchup with a 3-0 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent home game against the Texas State Bobcats, 47-17. QB Shane Buechele had an inconsistent game against the Bobcats as he connected on 14 of his 18 pass attempts for 219 yards and 2 TDs while also throwing 2 interceptions. RB TJ McDaniel led the way for the Mustangs offense with 159 rushing yards and 3 TDs.

The SMU Mustangs were solid on the defensive side of the ball against the Texas State Bobcats as they held their opponent to only 17 points and a total of 241 yards on offense. Safety Patrick Nelson led the way for the SMU Mustangs as he contributed 7 tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 pass deflection. Joining Nelson in the secondary is senior safety Rodney Clemons who was able to haul in the lone interception of the game for the Mustangs.

The TCU Horned Frogs come into this matchup with a 2-0 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent road game against the Purdue Boilermakers, 34-13. QB Max Duggan struggled to get much offense going through the air for the Horned Frogs as he only connected on 7 of his 18 pass attempts for 70 yards and a TD. The ground game was strong for TCU as Darius Anderson ran for 179 yards and 2 TDs while Sewo Olonilua ran for 106 yards and a TD.

The TCU Horned Frogs were very good on the defensive side of the ball against the Purdue Boilermakers as they held their opponent to only 13 points and a total of 204 yards on offense. Junior LB Garret Wallow led the way for the Horned Frogs with 10 tackles, 3 TFL, and 1 sack. Sophomore safety Trevon Moehrig had a solid game from the secondary as he contributed an interception and 2 pass deflections while Jeff Glandy pitched in an interception as well.

The SMU Mustangs have been very good this season, but they will get a tough order on the road against the ranked TCU Horned Frogs. TCU has had a revolving door at QB the last few seasons, but they have been very successful on offense this season due to a two-headed monster at RB. What has made this TCU team so successful this season has been their stingy defense, and they have already seen some of Shane Buechele when he was with Texas which gives them a slight advantage. The Horned Frogs will cause problems for the SMU offense and give their offense good field position to capitalize. Final Score Prediction, TCU Horned Frogs win and cover ATS 35-17.
