Last Updated: 08/21/2019 at 10:28 AM ET

The Purdue Boilermakers will open their 2019 regular season with a trip to Mackay Stadium to tackle the Nevada Wolf Pack. The Boilermakers have things headed in the right direction and made a huge statement by keeping third year head coach Matt Brohm in town. Purdue capitalized by securing a Top 25 recruiting class for the first time since 2004 and will have their sights set on a third straight bowl game appearance.

Purdue lost several key players on offense, but is excited about strong armed QB Elijah Sindelar. The Boilermakers return one of the most explosive players in college football, Rondale Moore, who racked up 2,215 all-purpose yards as a freshman.
The Nevada Wolf Pack are coming off an eight win season that was capped by a 16-13 bowl victory against Arkansas State. Redshirt freshman Carson Strong beat out Last Chance U. transfer Malik Henry for the starting quarterback job. Sophomore RB Toa Taua rushed for 872 yards and six touchdowns last season and will be counted on to shoulder the load offensively.

The Wolf Pack play a 3-3-5 defensive scheme and will be looking to replace a combined 14 sacks from Malik Reed and Korey Rush. Nevada ranked 88th against the pass and will be tested early and often.

Purdue is a team that is capable of taking the next step this season, while Nevada appears to be headed in the opposite direction. The Boilermakers have a talented group of receivers and will find success against a weak Wolf Pack secondary. Take Purdue to win and cover in the season opener. Final Score Prediction, Purdue Boilermakers win and cover ATS 38-21.
