On Saturday August 31 the Oregon Ducks play the Auburn Tigers at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the opening game of the college football regular season for both.

Oregon was 9-4 last season. Heisman Trophy contender Justin Herbert returns at quarterback for the Ducks. CJ Verdell who rushed for over 1,000 yards is back as is Travis Dye. Jaylon Redd and a trio of new wide receivers will easily fill in for those that moved on. Linebacker Troy Dye will anchor a much improved defense with freshman expected to make immediate impact.

Auburn has one of the best defenses in the nation with what is expected to be the best defensive line anchored by Derrick Brown, Nick Coe, Big Kat Bryant and Marlon Davidson. Offensively, Auburn has several changes with either Joey Gatewood or Bo Nix starting at quarterback with no experience between them. The top three running backs from last season return, but will face a tough Oregon defense against the run.
Justin Herbert last season threw for 3,151 yards, 29 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The top running back returning from last season is C.J. Verdell who rushed for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns. Travis Dye, who rushed for 739 yards and four TDs, is also back. Jaylon Redd leads all returning receivers with 433 yards and five touchdowns.

Bo Nix or Joey Gatewood will start at quarterback for Auburn. Gatewood, a redshirt freshman threw one pass last season that was incomplete. Nix is a true freshman. JaTarvious Whitlow returns as the leading rusher from last season with 787 yards and six touchdowns. Seth Williams who caught 26 passes for 534 yards and five touchdowns is the leading receiver returning from 2018.

This matchup features the potent offense of the Oregon Ducks against one of the best, if not best defensive lines in the nation at Auburn. The Auburn defensive backs play physical at the line, but if Oregon receivers can get free, Justin Herbert will pick apart the Tigers secondary. The game will come down to the trenches – with the best defensive front four against one of the top offensive lines in the nation. Take the points and the Ducks. Final Score Prediction, Oregon Ducks win and cover ATS 31-28.
