On Saturday January 1, the No 7 ranked Baylor Bears play the No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Baylor finished the regular season 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the Big 12. The Bears defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys 21-16 in the Big 12 championship game. The Rebels defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 31-21 in their final game of the regular season and won each of their last four. Ole Miss scored an average of 35.9 points per game and allowed an average of 25.0 points per game.
Quarterback Matt Corral passed for 3,339 yards with 20 touchdowns and four interceptions. Jerrion Ealy was the leading rusher with 703 yards and five touchdowns, while Snoop Connor rushed for 605 yards and 13 touchdowns. The leading receiver was Dontario Drummond with 924 yards and eight touchdown receptions. On defense, Chance Campbell was the leading tackler with 99 and Sam Williams was the leader in quarterback sacks with 12.5.
