The PlayStation Fiesta Bowl will feature a matchup between the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish from State Farm Stadium. The ninth-ranked Cowboys (11-2) won eight of their nine Big 12 Conference games and ranked eighth nationally in scoring defense (16.8 ppg). In the Big 12 Conference Championship game, Oklahoma State was stopped at the goal line in the final second of a 21-16 loss against Baylor.

Oklahoma State QB Spencer Sanders threw for 257 yards, but was unable to overcome four costly interceptions. Tay Martin hauled in nine passes for 88 yards in a losing effort for the Cowboys.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish quietly put together an 11-win season, with their lone loss coming at home versus Cincinnati. Head coach Brian Kelly departed for LSU and Notre Dame quickly promoted defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman as his replacement. Last time out, sixth-ranked Notre Dame built a 24-point halftime lead and cruised to a 45-14 road victory against Stanford.

Notre Dame QB Jack Coan dissected the Cardinal secondary for 345 yards passing and two touchdowns. Kyren Williams contributed 74 yards rushing and two scored for the Fighting Irish.
